SAO PAULO--Companhia Brasileira de Distribuicao (CBD, PCAR4.BR),
Brazil's largest retailer by revenue, said its net profit rose
27.5% in the fourth quarter as revenue outpaced expenses.
The company, which is controlled by French retail group Casino
Guichard-Perrachon SA (CGUSY, CO.FR), said late Thursday its net
profit totaled 687 million Brazilian reais ($286 million) in the
quarter, up from BRL539 million in the previous year.
CBD's net revenue totaled BRL16.8 billion, up 15.8% from the
year-ago period. Its gross revenue totaled BRL18.78 billion, up
14.6% from the fourth quarter of 2012.
The company's operational expenses increased 12% to BRL3.1
billion.
