SYDNEY--National Australia Bank Ltd. (NAB.AU) said Tuesday that former New South Wales state premier Mike Baird would join its corporate and institutional banking business.

NAB said Mr. Baird, who quit politics in the middle of last month and was replaced as premier by Gladys Berejiklian, had been appointed as chief customer officer of the division.

Mr. Baird is a former banker who has previously worked for NAB and competitors Deutsche Bank and HSBC.

"His time as Treasurer and Premier of New South Wales means he returns to banking and NAB with invaluable experience in leading economic and financial reform to grow the economy," said NAB Chief Executive Andrew Thorburn.
