The Gill Foundation announced today the hire of Fred Sainz as the
director of communications/marketing. Fred, who is currently the
director of communications and press secretary to Mayor Jerry Sanders of
San Diego, will officially join the foundation on August 18.
The Gill Foundation,
established in 1994 by software entrepreneur Tim
Gill, seeks to secure equal opportunity for all people regardless of
sexual orientation or gender expression. The Gill Foundation is one of
the nation’s largest funders focusing
primarily on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights.
As the foundation’s communications/marketing
director, Fred will be responsible for leading all internal and external
communication efforts for the Gill Foundation and the Gay & Lesbian Fund
for Colorado.
“Fred has an impressive leadership history.
His expertise in the areas of public relations, marketing, and public
policy will be a true asset to the foundation,”
said Gill Foundation executive director Tim
Sweeney.
Prior to joining the Mayor’s office, Fred
served as the vice president of public affairs for the San Diego
Convention Center Corporation. He has also held leadership positions
with the Waitt Family Foundation, the 1996 Republican National
Convention, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Fred has served as the chair of AIDS Walk San Diego and as a board
member of the San Diego LGBT Center.
“Advancing equality for lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender people is an objective close to my heart. I am
looking forward to having the opportunity to play a role in the Gill
Foundation’s work,”
said Fred Sainz.
Fred and his partner, Mike Tipton, will be relocating to Denver,
Colorado.
