Class of 2019 Reports Earning More than $3M in Scholarships and Awards

The George Washington University Online High School (GWUOHS) will celebrate the Class of 2019 with a commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 22 at the George Washington University’s Marvin Center Grand Ballroom in Washington, DC.

The full-time online private school for students worldwide is graduating 31 seniors this year. Collectively, the Class of 2019 reports that it has been offered more than $3 million in scholarships and awards from a number of higher education institutions and organizations.

“As GWUOHS seniors get ready to take on the next chapter in their lives, the Class of 2019 is set up for success,” said Alison Mistretta, Head of School. “This group of uniquely gifted students has worked hard to reach graduation, and they have already left an indelible impact on their communities, and one another. We can’t wait to see what the future brings for each of them.”

GWUOHS is an online college preparatory academy for students in grades 8-12. Students enroll from across the U.S. and around the world, receiving a rigorous, personalized education. The school’s curriculum is complemented by a unique Journey’s Symposium, which promotes self-awareness, leadership, service and personal success.

Members of the graduating class reports having been accepted to more than 50 colleges and universities around the world, including: the American University of Paris, Bard College, Brandeis University, Columbia University, the George Washington University, New York University, the University of Michigan, Pepperdine University, and the University of Virginia.

Saturday’s ceremony will recognize 13 students for membership in the GWUOHS National Honor Society. Other awards will recognize students’ leadership, academic excellence and community contributions.

Dr. Michael Corry, Chairman of the GWUOHS Advisory Board and GWU Professor of Educational Technology Leadership, Director of the Center for the Advancement of Research in Distance Education, and Senior Director of Online Learning Initiatives for the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, will deliver the commencement address.
