Eni SpA (ENI.MI) said Friday that it has been awarded a new exploration and production license in the unexplored Namibe basin offshore Angola.

The Italian energy major said it will be the operator of the license for Block 28. It will hold a 60% share in the joint venture, where Angola's state-owned oil company Sonangol P&P will hold 20%.

The remaining 20% will be assigned to a third partner during the closing of the contract, Eni said.
