Orange said Tuesday that it is partnering with Telefonica SA's
infrastructure subsidiary Telxius to deliver backhaul extensions
for the Dunant cable, a transatlantic submarine cable between
Europe and the U.S.
The French telecommunications company said it and Telxius would
provide backhaul extensions--high-speed point-to-point data
circuits--for the 6,600 kilometer-long cable, which is a Google
project expected to enter service in late 2020.
Orange and Telxius will provide co-location services at their
cable landing stations in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, France, and
Virginia Beach, U.S.
Orange will enable Telxius's terrestrial connection to Paris,
while Telxius will connect Orange to Ashburn, Virginia.
"We will be operating two fiber pairs of over 30 terabits per
second between France and the USA," said Jerome Barre, chief
executive of Orange Wholesale and International Networks.
