French construction and infrastructure company Vinci SA said Wednesday that it has received a contract for the Sydney Gateway motorway project in Australia worth 1.5 billion Australian dollars ($1.07 billion).

Vinci said the contract includes the construction of five kilometres of new and upgraded roads and its Australian subsidiary Seymour Whyte will deliver the project together with engineering contractor John Holland in a 50:50 joint venture. Vinci subsidiary Freyssinet is also involved.

"Sydney Gateway will reduce congestion in the area and optimise the city's motorway network by connecting the newly opened St Peters Interchange to Sydney Airport and Port Botany," Vinci said.
