Siemens Energy AG said Wednesday that it has been awarded a five-year service contract by Kuwait's ministry for electricity and water.

The contract is to provide maintenance to 116 high-voltage substations, which are used to transmit and distribute electricity, the German energy company said.

As part of the agreement, Siemens Energy will cover preventive maintenance and emergency repair of the substations, which will provide power to residential and commercial areas, it said.

No financial details of the contract were disclosed.
