SYDNEY--BHP Group Ltd. said the Brazilian iron-ore operation it owns jointly with Vale SA has restarted iron-ore pellet production after meeting the licensing requirements to restart operations suspended in the wake of a devastating waste-dam collapse in 2015.

Samarco Mineração S.A., the joint venture, expects initially to produce roughly 8 million metric tons of the steelmaking commodity a year, BHP said.
