--LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE could take a direct stake in German sandal maker Birkenstock as part of a takeover of the company by an LVMH-linked private-investment company, fashion-trade publication Women's Wear Daily reports, citing unnamed sources.

--Birkenstock is in exclusive talks with investment firm L Catterton, which was formed in partnership with LVMH, according to WWD. An eventual deal could see LVMH also take a "relatively small" direct stake in Birkenstock, it reports.

--The French luxury-goods group didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
