SSE PLC said Thursday that it will invest almost 50 million pounds ($68.8 million) to extend operations at its Tummel Bridge hydro-electric power plant in Scotland for a further 40 years.

The FTSE 100 energy company said its subsidiary SSE Renewables will start refurbishing work in spring 2022, and that it expects works--which will support up to 65 construction jobs--to be completed in late 2023.

"By replacing the existing turbines at Tummel Bridge with a modern, efficient plant, we will be able to safely extend the operational life of the station by at least 40 years, meaning Tummel Bridge will be part of our future net-zero power system," the company said.

Shares at 1002 GMT were down 7 pence, or 0.4%, at 1,638.50 pence.
