Shares of Fluence Energy Inc. jumped nearly 20% in their trading debut Thursday after the energy-storage company's initial public offering was priced above the expected price range.

Fluence shares were recently trading at $33.37, up about 19.2%, after opening at $33.50.

The Arlington, Va., venture of AES Corp. and Siemens AG sold 31 million shares at $28 apiece in the IPO, well above the anticipated price of $21 to $24 each.
