BHP Group Ltd. on Thursday reported a 10% fall in iron-ore output quarter-on-quarter, but said production of metallurgical coal jumped by 20%.

The miner said it produced 59.7 million metric tons of iron ore in the January-March quarter. Volumes were weaker as Covid-19 infections affected labor availability at its pits, while the miner also grappled with a shortage of train drivers.

BHP said its production of metallurgical coal--which climbed to 10.6 million tons--was stronger because of lower rainfall than the prior period and improved truck productivity.
