Ryanair Holdings PLC said Tuesday that it doesn't expect
widespread disruption this summer as continuing negotiations with
unions and staff are going well, having negotiated collective
agreements covering 90% of staff across Europe.
The Irish low-cost carrier was responding to media reports that
cabin crew in Spain have voted to hold six days of strikes at the
end of June and in early July.
"In Spain, we are pleased to have reached a collective agreement
with Comisiones Obreras, Spain's largest and most representative
union, delivering improvements for Spanish-based cabin crew and
reinforcing Ryanair's commitment to the welfare of its cabin crew,"
Ryanair said.
The budget airline said recent announcements made by Spanish
unions USO and SITCPLA were a distraction "from their own failures
to deliver agreements after three years of negotiations and we
believe that their strike calls will not be supported by our
Spanish crews."
On June 7, SITCPLA said Ryanair had left the negotiating table
after failing to meet its intention to implement revised salary
proposals. The union said Ryanair had done this in response to
seven European unions stating their intention to organize strikes
at a European level in summer should the company not give a
significant answer to their request.
