WestJet Airlines Ltd. agreed to buy 42 of Boeing Co.'s 737-10 jets, with options for an additional 22 aircraft.

The two companies on Thursday disclosed the deal for the 737-10s, the largest of Boeing's MAX aircraft. Financial details were not disclosed.

The 737-10 single aisle, twin-engine jets have improved fuel efficiency and reliability over earlier aircraft, the companies said. The additions will allow WestJet, Canada's second largest airline, to reduce its carbon emissions while boosting passenger capacity.

"With its lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions, the 737-10 will further improve the environmental footprint of our fleet," said WestJet Group Chief Executive Officer Alexis von Hoensbroech.
