The U.K's Competition and Markets Authority said Monday that it is investigating the acquisition of VMware Inc. by Broadcom Inc.

The watchdog said it is inviting to comments until Dec. 6 to determine whether the acquisition could result in lessened competition.

In May, Broadcom said it planned to acquire VMware for $61 billion in cash and stock.
