ING Groep NV said Thursday that it will combine the roles of head of retail banking, challengers & growth markets and head of market leaders.

The Dutch lender said that current head of market leaders Pinar Abay, will be appointed to the role with effect on May 15.

Current head of retail banking, challengers & growth markets Aris Bogdaneris, will step down on May 15 and will leave the company with effect on Aug. 1 to pursue other opportunities.

"Bringing together the leadership roles of all our Retail Banking markets is a logical next step to further improve consistency, scalability and efficiency to the products and services we offer," Chief Executive Steven van Rijswijk said.
