Uzbekistan Airways is buying 12 aircraft from Airbus SE's A320neo family as part of plans to modernize its fleet for domestic and international routes.

The European plane maker said Friday that Uzbekistan Airways had placed an order for eight A320neo and four A321neo aircraft, all part of Airbus's A320neo family.

Uzbekistan Airways' fleet already has 17 aircraft from Airbus's A320 family. Financial details weren't disclosed.

"The contract signed with Airbus is a new step in our fleet modernization strategy aimed at offering our passengers the most modern and comfortable aircraft," said Ilhom Makhkamov, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airways.

"At the same time these new fuel efficient A320neo Family aircraft will help us to further expand and strengthen our footprint in Central Asia as well as develop our domestic and international network," he said.
