Air Liquide SA said Tuesday that alongside Sasol Ltd., they have signed two power purchase agreements with TotalEnergies SE for the long-term supply of renewable power to Sasol's Secunda site in South Africa.

The industrial-gases company said the agreements for 260 megawatts of renewable energy at the Secunda site add to the 220 megawatt power purchase agreement made in January with Enel Green Power.

The latest agreement will see TotalEnergies and its partner Mulilo create a local majority-owned wind project with a 140-megawatt capacity and one local majority-owned solar project with a 120-megawatt capacity, Air Liquide, which produces oxygen at Sasol's site, said.

The projects are expected to be operational in 2025, subject to regulatory and financial approvals, the company said.

Sasol and Air Liquide have endeavored since April 2021 to procure a total of 900 megawatts of renewable energy for the Secunda site.

Additional power purchase agreements are being negotiated, it said.
