Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) is preparing to ramp up its domestic manufacturing capabilities in response to the escalating global need for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, according to a report published by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday evening.

In an interview held Monday, CEO and Chairman Charles Liang discussed the company’s ambitions to broaden its U.S. operations. “The demand for AI is growing rapidly,” Liang said, adding that the trend is creating significant growth opportunities not only in the U.S., but also across Europe and Japan.

To support this expansion, Super Micro is considering additional facilities in states like Texas and Mississippi, particularly if current U.S. policies continue to favor domestic production. Liang indicated that rising costs in Silicon Valley are driving the company’s interest in lower-cost regions. “The company is considering manufacturing in Texas and Mississippi due to the rising costs in Silicon Valley,” he noted.

Back in February, Super Micro announced plans for a third production campus in San Jose, reinforcing its commitment to growth in its home state while also eyeing more geographically diverse sites.

The majority of Super Micro’s servers—key components for powering generative AI applications—are currently assembled in California. However, the company’s broader strategic aim is to better position itself amid the accelerating global race to build AI infrastructure.

With artificial intelligence shaping up to be one of the decade’s dominant technological shifts, Super Micro’s move to scale its U.S. footprint reflects an effort to secure its role as a critical supplier in this rapidly evolving space.
