EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Feb, 23,
2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney and the Hartford section of the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers (ASME) honored five Distinguished Engineers of
the Year last evening during National Engineers Week, which
began on Feb. 18. The ASME Hartford
section makes these awards annually to recognize and promote
excellence in the field of engineering. Pratt & Whitney is a
division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
"It was not easy to choose our top five Engineers of the Year,"
said Dave Carter, senior vice
president, Engineering, Pratt & Whitney. "We have a lot of
talented engineers who made great contributions last year. The
accomplishments of the individuals we chose were particularly
notable, and we are grateful to have them as leaders in our
organization."
Pratt & Whitney's Engineers of the Year for 2018 are
Mark Von Nieda, chief
engineer for the F100/TF33/J52; Rick
Carlton, chief engineer for Military Development
Programs; Ron Prihar,
Structures discipline chief, GSE; Esther
Boyes, model chief engineer for the PW1900G and PW1700G;
and Dan Gysling,
aeromechanics fellow.
"Mark's experience and professionalism were instrumental in
simultaneously working multiple field incident investigations while
being able to find the root cause for each," said Carter. "Rick's
persistence and guidance in the development of a critical engine
program through Preliminary and Detailed Design helped it progress
in a timely manner. Ron accelerated Engine Services' ability to
decrease engine overhaul time, and lent his expertise to the
development of processes for the F100 Retirement for Cause (RFC)
initiative. Esther spearheaded the certification of the PW1900G for
Embraer E190-E2 and E195-E2, showing exceptional technical skill
and leadership. And finally, Dan's expertise in dynamics helped to
optimize the engine bearing compartment sealing and damping system
for our GTF and advanced military products. They are each shining
examples of what it means to go beyond for our customers."
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is a not-for-profit
organization that represents 130,000 engineers in more than 150
countries, including college students and young engineers, to
senior researchers and executives.
