BEA-WRITE DOWN OF SHIPS BY USD 49 MILL

The Board of Bergesen has decided to write down the company's interests in the
Igloo- and Handygas segments (gas carriers between 8.000 and 15.000 cbm) with
USD 49 million in fourth quarter 2001. The write down is made due to consistent
low earnings and falling market values.

The write down is made by USD 46 million on ships and USD 3 million on financial
long term assets.

Bergesen will present its 4th quarter 2001 results and preliminary annual
results on 14th February 2002.
