ANDOVER, Mass., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Dynamics Research Corporation (NASDAQ:DRCO) today announced that it was awarded $1.34 million in task orders and modifications under the Air Force's Design and Engineering Support Program (DESP II) contract. The latest task order, valued at $928,000, marks the company's tenth task order under DESP II and was awarded through the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker Air Force Base to support the B-52 aircraft weapon system. DRC was also awarded $415,000 in modifications to the existing C/KC-135 Aircraft Systems Engineering Program (ASEP) and the Item Unique Identification (IUID) initiatives. "We are eager to continue providing our engineering expertise and program management skills as a trusted partner to the U.S. Air Force," said Robert L. Smith, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Acquisition Management and Engineering Group, DRC. "We strive to deliver superior DESP II programs that fully meet the needs of the warfighter, and are ready to apply the highest level of technical services in support of the B-52's critical role in our nation's defense." Under this 12 month task order, DRC and subcontractor Wyle Corporation will perform detailed, quantitative investigations and analyses addressing maintenance practices, failure modes, spare/repair parts and parts usage, training, technical publications, and other reliability, maintenance, and logistics issues affecting Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM), using a structured Reliability & Maintenance engineering approach. The effort will include Component Process Reviews (CPR), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analyses, and other analyses necessary to determine the best maintenance processes and intervals. The RCM approach will result in detailed recommendations for changes to the maintenance and support concepts currently in use during PDM. In related developments, two modifications in support of existing DESP II task orders were also awarded. The first was a modification to the existing C/KC-135 Aircraft Systems Engineering Program (ASEP) task order. This award was for $215,000 to perform an independent assessment of a failed KC-135 aircraft nose landing gear wheel well skin that caused an aircraft depressurization and debris scatter to determine the type, cause, and origin of failure. The second modification, awarded for $200,000, is to purchase specialized equipment required in support the DRC Item Unique Identification (IUID) part marking effort at Ogden Air Logistics Center. DESP II is an Indefinite Delivery-Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract with a ceiling of $1.9 billion to provide design, engineering and technical support services to the Air Force Air Logistics Centers (ALC) through 2012. As one of 20 prime contractors, the DRC DESP II Team provides the incumbent expertise, stability, capability and skills necessary to successfully serve the USAF and all aspects of DESP II.
