Gevity, one of Bradentons largest employers, announced today that employee efforts have contributed more than $90,000, 594 pounds of food and 10 truckloads of toys to local and national charities since founding the Community Involvement Team in 2005. Within the past year, Gevity volunteers have raised more than $38,000 to support social causes that include: poverty, disease, children, teens, soldiers and disaster recovery. Our employees are definitely passionate about making a difference in the communities in which they live and work, said Meredith Johnson, Gevitys Chief People Officer. Time and time again, we witness the powerful energy, camaraderie and generosity that results from the spirit of giving. Most recently, employees raised 594 pounds of food and $1,000 for The Food Bank of Manatee, a non-profit organization that provides emergency food packages for families in need and also distributes food to more than 90 local, social service agencies. Gevitys hefty collection was prompted by the interest of a single employee who believed in the power of numbers. I read in the newspaper that the food banks supplies were dwindling. The article encouraged community action and I knew Gevity colleagues would be eager to assist, said Shawna Malecki, marketing programs manager and team leader for Gevitys September food drive. In fact, we were one of the first area companies to contribute to the Manatee CAN food drive. I hope our involvement inspires the generosity of other organizations. As demonstrated by Malecki, Gevitys Community Involvement Team recognizes the powerful impact that employees can have in their communities simply by coming together. This employee-driven, volunteer culture is reflected throughout the organization and is supported by the core values that drive the companys business decisions. Gevitys core values emphasize integrity, honesty, service first, teamwork, communication and accountability. Our companys core values are about serving people and that extends beyond our clients to our fellow colleagues and people in the community, said Krista Hall, field office administrator and member of the Community Involvement Team. We are fortunate to have a company full of people that enjoy serving their community. 2008 Distinguished Volunteers Among Gevitys active volunteer culture, there are always employees that distinguish themselves through their selfless devotion to helping others. Gevity would like to recognize the following employees for their significant commitment to teamwork and social responsibility during 2008: Frances Kurlinski, director of tax programs Raised more than $9,000 and walked 26.2-miles in an Alaskan marathon to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. For Frances, the June walk-a-thon was a celebration of her sisters life, who passed away of lymphoma in 2005. Frances raised funds through direct mail and Gevity. At work, she coordinated a bake sale, donation drive, dress-down days and raffles. Shirley Pasowicz, accounts receivable specialist Inspired by her daughters volunteer spirit, Shirley achieved her highest volunteer goal recently raising $1,950 to benefit the American Heart Association. She was honored to walk on Gevitys volunteer team, the areas top fundraisers in Octobers Annual Heart Walk. Gevity was recognized for raising $5,482, the most funds of any team in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Carol Schoff, marketing product manager Adopted a military unit of seven soldiers stationed in Iraq through the Soldiers Angels foundation. Her team raised $1,873 and has shipped more than 20 care packages overseas since May 2008. Shawna Malecki, marketing programs manager Collected 594 pounds of food and $1,000 for The Food Bank of Manatee in September 2008. Because of her support, the food bank was able to fill their bare shelves and Gevity was recognized as one of the first corporate sponsors to participate in the Manatee CAN food drive program. 2008 Top 10 Fundraisers List Gevity also released its 2008 Top 10 Fundraisers List, as determined by contributions this year.
