Proxim Strengthens Commitment to Delivering Wireless Solutions for Education and Municipal Networks & Public Safety Markets Hires New Marketing Managers to Address Growing Opportunities in Key Verticals SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Proxim Corporation (NASDAQ:PROX), a global leader in wireless networking equipment for Wi-Fi and broadband wireless networks, today announced that it has hired two marketing managers to focus on the increasing opportunities the company has identified in two key vertical markets: Education and Municipal Networks & Public Safety. Proxim has hired Michael Doble as Municipal Networks & Public Safety Marketing Manager, and Jeanne Flatland as Education Marketing Manager. Both are industry veterans in their respective areas and come to Proxim with valuable experience specific to the vertical market sectors they are managing. While Proxim has always addressed a wide variety of vertical markets, both with its ORiNOCO wireless LAN solutions and Tsunami broadband wireless systems, the education and municipal network and public safety verticals, in particular, have been growing substantially over the past few years. Instat/MDR projects U.S. technology spending in 2004 at $5.35 billion for colleges and universities, and slightly over $5 billion for K-12 public schools. Proxim is seeing numerous opportunities in this area with a number of recent wins at the K-12 and University levels for both its ORiNOCO and Tsunami lines. Likewise, because of the numerous homeland security initiatives and major RFPs recently issued for major U.S. cities like New York, the municipal wireless and public safety market is growing rapidly. Analysts estimate that this market could be worth as much as $1 billion for the US over the next few years. Proxim has witnessed numerous opportunities in this emerging sector -- for both its Tsunami and ORiNOCO wireless solutions which incorporate mobile roaming for use in moving vehicles such as police cars. Many municipal and city governments, transportation companies and police and fire departments are using the Tsunami Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems for municipal and public safety applications today. "To meet the growing demands of these vertical markets, it was clear we needed to increase our commitment by having senior-level managers to focus specifically on the requirements of these customers," said Lynn Lucas, Vice President of Product Marketing for Proxim. "Mike and Jeanne are both seasoned professionals who will help Proxim better tailor its solutions to these important markets." As Municipal Networks & Public Safety Marketing Manager, Michael Doble brings to Proxim over 25 years of experience in the wireless, broadband wireless, microwave and public safety communication markets. Most recently, he was the CEO of Public Safety Broadband Resource Center, where he became one of the leading experts in public safety wireless broadband technology. Previously, he was the Vice President of Wireless Business Development for Applied Innovation, Inc. He joined this organization through the sale of Badger Technology, a company he had founded and led, to Applied Innovation. Badger was a communications company specializing in network management for the wireless, microwave and public safety communication markets. Mr. Doble is a leading contributor in the development of standards for public safety wireless broadband and is a member of numerous public safety-related committees, working groups and councils. Prior to joining Proxim as Education Marketing Manager, Jeanne Flatland was Director of Marketing for Acer America Corporation where she directed all marketing efforts, including those tailored to the educational market, for the company's computer systems products in the United States. Previously, she held marketing positions with Farallon Communications and Edutech in which she managed sales and marketing programs for K-12 and higher education institutions.
