CANBERRA--Glencore International PLC (GLEN.LN) said Friday that
Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board has approved its
acquisition of Canada-based grain handler Viterra Inc.
(VTA.AU).
Chris Mahoney, Glencore's director of agricultural products,
welcomed the FIRB approval and also said the company plans to work
with anti-trust watchdog the Australian Competition and Consumer
Commission to refine access arrangements for grain ports in South
Australia state.
"For almost 10 years Glencore has forged close relationships
with Australian grain growers. The acquisition of Viterra will
strengthen our commitment to the future of the Australian grain
industry," he said in a statement.
The companies announced the C$6.1 billion acquisition agreement
in March.
