Glencore International PLC (GLEN.LN) has told the Italian
government it's interested in taking over Alcoa Inc.'s (AA)
aluminium plant on the island of Sardinia, Reuters reported Friday,
citing Italy's industry ministry.
The commodity trading and mining group asked for clarification
on things like energy costs, infrastructure and environmental
issues, the industry ministry said in a statement, Reuters
reported. Glencore said it would give its assessment in a week,
Reuters said, and another meeting is due to be held Sept. 5.
Italian industry ministry Undersecretary Claudio De Vincenti
said the government is still looking for other possible investors,
however, Reuters reported. Glencore, it said, declined to
comment.
