Iraq has bought some 300,000 metric tons of Australian and
Canadian wheat from a tender which closed on January 13, the head
of the state-run Iraqi Grain Board said Thursday.
Hassan Ismael Ibrahim told Dow Jones that some 250,000 tons of
the purchased wheat was of Australian origin, while the remaining
50,000 tons was of Canadian origin.
Mr. Ibrahim said the Canadian wheat was bought from Glencore
International PLC (GLEN.LN); the company will also supply some
100,000 tons of wheat from Australia.
Each of Australia's CBS, Louis Dreyfus and Olam International
Ltd. (032.SG) will supply 50,000 tons of the remaining Australian
wheat purchases, he added.
Both the Australian and Canadian wheat was bought at prices
ranging between $388 to $391 a ton, he said.
Mr. Ibrahim said the purchased wheat will be delivered in March
and April this year.
Baghdad's last wheat purchase was in December when it bought
350,000 tons of Australian and Romanian origin.
