Glencore PLC (GLEN.LN) said Tuesday that its copper production rose 10% in the second quarter, while cobalt output surged 52%.

The Anglo-Swiss commodity trader and miner said copper production from its own sources rose to 350,800 tons in the second quarter from 318,800 tons a year earlier.

Production of cobalt, a mineral used in alloys for jet engines and electric car batteries, surged to 9,700 tons from 6,400 tons, Glencore said.

During the first half of the year, Glencore said coal production was in line with the first six months of 2017, at 62 million tons, due to disruption in Australia caused by inclement weather.
