Bello Senior Vice President and Treasurer

    STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 3, 2001--The Thomson
Corporation (TSE:TOC) today announced that Stephane Bello has joined
the Company as Senior Vice President and Treasurer, effective August
1, 2001. Bello succeeds long-time, London-based Treasurer Martin
Jones, who will remain with Thomson on a consulting basis through the
transition.
    "Stephane brings exceptional management and leadership skills to
Thomson," said Richard J. Harrington, president and chief executive
officer of The Thomson Corporation. "With his international business
experience and strong financial expertise, Stephane is the ideal
person to manage our global Treasury operations."
    Bello, 40, joins Thomson after a 13-year career at General Motors
where he was most recently Assistant Treasurer. Prior to becoming
Assistant Treasurer in 2000, Bello held a number of senior business
development and financial positions in Brussels and New York.
Previously, he was an Account Officer with Continental Bank in
Belgium.
