               Re: De-listing of H&CB's Global Depositary Shares

"H&CB's offer to exchange any and all outstanding GDSs for ADSs, which have been
listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Inc., expires at 12:00 midnight, New York
City time, on October 31, 2000, and H&CB will not be extending the exchange
offer. H&CB has requested the de-listing of the GDSs promptly after the end of
the exchange offer."
