Following the sale of 1,000,000 shares on 12 January 2000, Aberdeen High
Income Trust Plc now has an interest in 2,000,000 ordinary 25p shares
(representing 4.57% of the issued class of capital and 2.29% of the voting
rights);

Following the sale of 1,400,000 shares on 12 January 2000, Aberdeen Preferred
Income Trust Plc no longer has a notifiable interest in the ordinary 25p
shares.

Following the sale of 1,000,000 shares on 12 January 2000, Leveraged Income
Fund Limited now has an interest in 3,650,000 ordinary 25p shares
(representing 8.34% of the issued class of capital and 4.17% of the voting
rights).

As a result of the above transactions, Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited now
have an interest in 11,117,500 ordinary 25p shares (representing 25.41% of the
issued class of capital and 12.71% of the voting rights).


INCOME 25P SHARES

The Company has been informed that:

Following the sale of 1,800,000 shares on 12 January 2000, Aberdeen Preferred
Income Trust Plc no longer has a notifiable interest in the income 25p shares.

As a result of the above transactions, Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited now
have an interest in 7,697,799 ordinary 25p shares (representing 17.60% of the
issued class of capital and 8.80% of the voting rights).
