GEARED INCOME INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

INCOME SHARES OF 25P EACH

The Company has today been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited sold
12,700,000 Income shares (representing 10.55% of issued class of capital) on
17 May 2000 on behalf of Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc.

Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc no longer has an interest in the Company's
Income 25p shares. 

The Company has also been informed that Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
purchased 12,700,000 Income shares (representing 10.55% of issued class of
capital) on 17 May 2000 on behalf of Leveraged Income Fund Limited. 

Leveraged Income Fund Limited now holds 12,700,000 Income shares (representing
10.55% of issued class of capital).

The total number of Income shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited
and its associated companies remains 20,400,000 Income shares of the Company,
representing 16.94% of issued class of capital.
