BFS US Special Opportunities Trust PLC

The Company has today been notified that on 12 April 2001 Aberdeen Asset
Managers Limited acquired on behalf of its clients a total of 12,500,000
Units.  Each Unit comprises 1 Income Share and 1 Capital Share and the
acquisition therefore represents 25.00% of the issued share capital of each of
these classes.  The total acquisition is analysed as follows;

-          Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust Plc now holds 2,000,000 Income
           Shares and Capital Shares representing 4.00% of the issued capital of
           those classes;

-          The American Monthly Income Trust Limited now holds 2,000,000
           Income Shares and Capital Shares representing 4.00% of the issued    
           capital of those classes;

-          Murray Global Return Trust Plc now holds 2,500,000 Income Shares
           and Capital Shares representing 5.00% of the issued capital of those 
           classes;

-          The remaining 6,000,000 Income Shares and Capital Shares
           representing 12.00% of the issued capital of those classes have been 
           purchased on behalf of discretionary funds under management.

Copies of this announcement are available from the registered office of the
Company for a period of fourteen days from the date hereof.
