BFS SMALL COMPANIES DIVIDEND TRUST PLC
The company has been informed that on 7 May 1999,Aberdeen Preferred Income
Trust PLC acquired 1,000,000 ordinary 25p shares (representing 6.67% of the
issued class of capital) and Leveraged Income Fund Limited acquired 500,000
ordinary 25p shares (representing 3.33% of the issued class of capital).

As a result, Aberdeen Preferred Income Trust PLC now has an interest in
1,000,000 ordinary 25p shares of the Company (representing 6.67% of the issued
class of capital) and Leveraged Income Fund Limited has an interest in 500,000
ordinary 25p shares of the Company (representing 3.33% of the issued class of
capital).

The total number of ordinary 25p shares managed by Aberdeen Asset Managers
Limited and its associated companies is 1,700,000(representing 11.33% of the
issued class of capital).
