Notification of directors' interests: Companies Act s329
                            
Barclays has today been further notified that on 7
October 1998, Mr O H J Stocken received 185 ordinary
shares in the Company by way of the share dividend
reinvestment plan for the 1998 interim dividend at a
price of 970p per share.  These shares are in addition to
the 279 shares notified on 9 October 1998.  The total
amount of shares received by Mr Stocken on 7 October 1998
was therefore 464 ordinary shares by way of the share
dividend reinvestment plan.

Mr Stocken's total interest following this notification
is 31,413 ordinary shares and he has a non-beneficial
interest in 24,600 ordinary shares.
