we have today received a notification from Barclays PLC, that through its
subsidiary Barclays Bank PLC, it holds 6,349,709 ordinary shares, which
represents a notifiable interest of 3.03% of the ordinary share capital of
AMEC p.l.c.

Barclays PLC had previously notified on 5th January 1999, that their interest
had fallen below 3%.
