GOLDSHIELD GROUP PLC (the "Company")

Notification of Major Interests in Shares

Goldshield Group PLC received today a notification from Barclays PLC informing
them that, as at 6 August 1999, Barclays PLC through its subsidiary, Barclays
Bank PLC, had a notifiable interest in 10,158,137 Ordinary Shares,
representing 28.05 per cent. of the Company's issued Ordinary Share Capital. 
These shares are registered as follows :

TwentyNine Gracechurch Street Nominees Ltd      9,731,500 shares
MSTC Nominees Limited                               9,800 shares
MSTC Nominees (Life) Limited                      404,983 shares
State Street Nominees Limited                       4,854 shares
