GOAL ANNOUNCES SENIOR BOARD APPOINTMENTS
GOAL plc, announces today the appointments of Sir Bryan Nicholson and Nigel
Snook to the Board of the Company with immediate effect.
Sir Bryan takes up the new position of Non-Executive Chairman and Nigel Snook,
who joined the Company in May 2001, becomes Managing Director.
Commenting on the appointments, Wynford Dore said:
"I am absolutely delighted that Sir Bryan has agreed to work with me to
develop GOAL and help realise the Company's potential. He brings with him a
lifetime of experience in both the private and public sectors, with a
particular emphasis on education and training matters.
"I will continue to be actively involved as a Director in the Company's
development, concentrating on strategic relationships, working on a part time
basis.
"Nigel Snook's appointment is also important to our development plans. He has
considerable experience of managing education and training operations and will
be responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Company. Gareth Newman,
Chief Executive, will continue in his role which has primarily been focused on
product development and marketing GOAL's services to the LEA and schools
network.
"Over the past 18 months we have turned our vision of creating an innovative
assessment service for schools into a reality. Assessment for learning is a
central theme of the government's schools development programme and GOAL is
ideally placed to develop its services to reflect this and provide schools
with an integrated programme which can be tailored to their individual needs.
"We are also well placed to develop strategic partnerships with a range of
suppliers of education services where GOAL's technology can be brought
together with established approaches to develop new products and more
effectively market services to schools.
"These important appointments mark the transition from our development and
launch phase and enhance significantly our prospects to move forward and
capitalise on our progress to date. Indeed, in the 6 weeks since our
preliminary announcement, a further 94 schools have contracted to use GOAL's
services, bringing the total number of schools subscribing to GOAL to 845."
Sir Bryan Nicholson
Sir Bryan (69) is currently Chairman of Cookson Group plc and, of the
Financial Reporting Council. He was Chairman of BUPA for 9 years until May
2001. He has also served on the main boards of Rank Xerox (UK) Limited, Lucas
Varity plc and GKN plc.
Sir Bryan is a previous president of the CBI and has a long term interest in
education and training. Currently he chairs the Council of the Open University
and is Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University. Previously he has chaired
the Manpower Services Commission, the National Council for Vocational
Qualifications, the Council for National Academic Awards and the CBI's
Education and Training Affairs Committee.

Nigel Snook
Nigel Snook (47) was previously Chief Executive of the Lantra Trust, the
Government recognised National Training Organisation for the land based and
environmental sector that provides a wide range of research, standard setting,
qualifications and training services. Lantra also operates an accredited
awarding body and management and trainer training services. He has over 25
years experience working in government agencies and training organisations. He
is actively involved in vocational education, training and guidance work
through his membership of the Coventry and Warwickshire Learning and Skills
Council and the Board of the Warwickshire Careers Company.
