Sections 198 to 209 Companies Act 1985 ("the act")

Further to our letter dated 27th September 1999 I write to inform you that at
the date of this letter, Allied Irish Banks plc and its subsidiaries (as defined
in the above mentioned sections) ("AIB") had a total notifiable interest in
7,251,614 shares in the share capital of your company.  Details of that
interest, together with a breakdown between registered holders (as required by
Section 202(3) of the Act, are shown above.

Of the above mentioned shares, 2,287,506 held in AIB (Holdings and Investments)
Ltd are beneficially held, the remainder are non beneficial shares.
