Toronto, May 24, 2004 -- Inco Limited and its 61 per cent owned subsidiary, PT
International Nickel Indonesia Tbk ("PT Inco"), have evaluated advisories issued
by the Canadian and Australian governments regarding the security situation in
the province of South Sulawesi, Indonesia where PT Inco's operations are
located.

Inco and PT Inco are keeping in close contact with Canadian and Indonesian
government officials and have taken appropriate actions to protect personnel,
which have included moving people from PT Inco's operations in Sorowako to other
locations.

"The safety of our employees is our top priority in these types of situations,"
said Inco Chairman and CEO Scott Hand. "We will continuously monitor the
situation with the assistance of the Indonesian and Canadian governments."

PT Inco's operations are proceeding as normal and the company does not currently
expect that this situation will disrupt PT Inco's operations.
