      Pre Close Trading Statement for the Half Year to the 26th June 2004


The AGM statement on 11 May 2004 stated that all our businesses had performed to
expectation in the first 4 months of the year.  This trend continued in the
remaining 2 months of the half year.


In line with our strategy, we have continued to strengthen our market positions
through acquisition in growth areas when and where appropriate. During April we
announced the acquisition of the HSS Event Hire business, thereby expanding our
geographical coverage and product range, followed in May by the acquisition of
the Sketchley "high street" drycleaning shops and brand.


Market conditions are unchanged in the workwear rental market but our investment
in the business remains targeted to improve performance, particularly in the
area of sales and marketing. Our garment sourcing, hospitality and premium linen
businesses continue to perform well.


The improvements reported in the drycleaning business have continued and
integration of the Sketchley shops is proceeding to plan.


The facilities management and supplies businesses also continue to perform to
expectation.


The interim results will be announced on 10th September 2004.
