Meikles  Africa Limited confirms that it  is  part  of  a
consortium  that  is  involved in discussions  which,  if
successful,  will  result in the consortium  acquiring  a
controlling  interest in the Beverley  Building  Society.
The  consortium also includes an indigenous  grouping,  a
major regional financial institution who will act as  the
technical partner and Real Africa Durolink Zimbabwe.  The
consortium will draw on the synergies between the  retail
operations  of Meikles Africa and the financial  services
expertise  of  the  technical partner for  the  long-term
benefit  of  Beverley  Building  Society  and  Zimbabwean
consumers.    Discussions  are  continuing  between   the
various  parties, including the relevant authorities.   A
full  statement  will be issued in due  course  once  all
parties,  including the Reserve Bank  of  Zimbabwe,  have
been consulted.
