Purchase of Shares

The Trustees of the South Staffordshire Plc Employee Benefit Trust, which holds
shares for the benefit of employees, including directors has today acquired
69,441 Ordinary shares of 42.5p each in South Staffordshire Plc. This equates to
0.54% of the issued share capital and represents the total holding of the Trust.
The average price paid for the shares was #7.65.

The shares were acquired in order to be able to satisfy the award under the
South Staffordshire Plc Long Term Incentive Plan (LTIP).
