Standard & Poor's credit rating upgrade

South Staffordshire Plc (the "Company") notes the upgrade by Standard & Poor's
of its long term corporate credit rating for South Staffordshire Plc and South
Staffordshire Water Plc to 'A'.

This follows Standard & Poor's assignment of an 'A-' rating with a positive
outlook in March 2004, at the time of the Company's demerger from Homeserve plc
(formerly South Staffordshire Group Plc).
