            Ackroyd appointment completes the
             new management team at Victoria
                            
Carpet  and  yarn  manufacturers,  Victoria  PLC,  today
announce the appointment with immediate effect of  Keith
Ackroyd  as new non-executive director. This appointment
further  strengthens  the Board and  completes  the  re-
organisation plans started in 1996.

Keith Ackroyd CBE, FRPharmS. CIMgt. (aged 64), brings to
the  Group  a  considerable  amount  of  experience,  in
particular from the retail sector.  He joined  Boots  in
1952 and was appointed to the Board of The Boots Company
PLC  in  1979.   He was appointed Managing  Director  of
Boots The Chemists in 1983 and Managing Director of  the
Retail  Division of The Boots Company PLC in  1984.   He
was  Chairman  British Retail Consortium  from  1989-94,
Chairman  of  the Trent Regional Health  Authority  from
1994-97 and Deputy Chairman of Care First PLC from 1994-
98.    In   1993,  Mr  Ackroyd  became  a  Director   of
Silentnight  Holdings Plc, one of the UK's  leading  bed
manufacturers  where,  in 1995, he  was  appointed  non-
Executive  Chairman.  He is a non-executive Director  of
Novara Plc and the Passport Agency.

Commenting  on the completion of the Group's  management
re-organisation and Mr Ackroyd's appointment, Victoria's
Managing Director, Alan Bullock said:

"Our  industry  has,  over the  last  couple  of  years,
experienced  a  number of challenges and  it  is  widely
accepted  that  there will be some consolidation  within
it.  Coupled with the strong operating management  teams
and  the strength and depth of experience on the  Board,
which Mr Ackroyd will augment, we are well positioned to
take advantage of any opportunities that may arise."

Editor's Note:
The  re-organisation of the Board at Victoria  began  in  July
1996,  with  the  appointment of Bob Gilbert as  Non-Executive
Chairman,  followed  in September of the  same  year  of  Alan
Bullock (Group Managing Director) and John Duncan (Group Sales
Director), both of whom had been with Victoria for a number of
years  and  responsible  for  the  Group's  principal  trading
subsidiary,  Victoria  Carpets Ltd. At the  same  time  Graeme
Anton,  after  41 years with the Group retired. In  May  1998,
Mark  Lee  joined  the Board as Group Finance  Director  after
previously  being  a director with Arthur  Andersen  where  he
gained  considerable  experience  working  with  manufacturing
companies.  Peter Anton retired after more than 36 years  with
the Company.

The  other executive members of the Board are Brian  Priest  (
Managing  Director  of  Westwood  Yarns)  and  Mike  Oakley  (
Managing   Director  of  Victoria's  Australian   subsidiary).
Alexander Anton remains a Non-Executive Director.
