SAN DIEGO, March 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Accelrys, Inc.
(NASDAQ: ACCL), a leading provider of scientific innovation
lifecycle management solutions, today announced its next-generation
mobile strategy for the laboratory―to provide a flexible and secure
mobile computing environment that effectively connects scientists,
equipment and materials in today's laboratories where an increasing
number and variety of mobile devices, from smart phones to tablet
computers, are in use. With over a decade of experience in
pioneering paperless, mobile computing and wireless compliance
capabilities in regulated laboratories, Accelrys will empower
organizations to deploy purpose-built mobile applications in the
lab from research to manufacturing, satisfying specific workflow
requirements in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice.
Further advancing this mobile strategy, Accelrys Capture is a new
mobile multi-media capture application that facilitates rapid,
paperless recording at the laboratory bench, significantly
improving workflow flexibility, efficiency and productivity.

Accelrys technology has raised the bar in ensuring that
laboratory data meets prerequisite requirements before being
recorded, thereby reducing review time and rework loops and
providing regulated companies with the potential for significant
cost savings. Automated compliance solutions from Accelrys include
validation-ready wireless infrastructure, validation-ready handheld
devices for tracking/tracing process-linked data and numerous
instrument-to-procedure integrations running on handheld devices in
regulated laboratory environments.
"Proven Accelrys technology makes the next generation of mobile
laboratory computing possible," said Leif
E. Pedersen, senior vice president of marketing, product
management and corporate development at Accelrys. "Accelrys
Capture is as easy to use as paper while offering scientists the
opportunity to work more intuitively, efficiently and productively
in today's integrated laboratory—with all the flexibility,
integration and automation benefits of an electronic system in the
palm of the hand."
New Mobile Technology Facilitates Accurate, Real-time
Recording at the Bench
Accelrys Capture allows scientists
to work more intuitively, efficiently and productively with
laboratory informatics software like the Accelrys Electronic Lab
Notebook (ELN). The application's easy-to-use interface provides a
straightforward and secure way for scientists to enter information,
view procedures, capture data from laboratory instrumentation by
using small mobile devices and leverage built-in functionality such
as cameras that facilitate both the recording and sharing of
experimental findings.
By putting procedures and data directly into scientists' hands,
Accelrys Capture offers the following benefits:
- Increased Lab Efficiency through the ability to enter
data quickly and look up procedures using a single, small mobile
device; also the ability to make instant procedural annotations at
the bench without requiring scientists to document changes at
remote computers outside the lab
- Improved Staff Motivation by being able to work flexibly
and intuitively with the focus on science using modern
state-of-the-art mobile devices
- Enhanced Data Quality through direct data entry at the
bench where data is created and observations made; fewer data-entry
and data-transfer errors
- Reduced Cycle Times by removing bottlenecks in
laboratory processes
Accelrys Capture is initially provided as an addition to the
Accelrys Electronic Laboratory Notebook for fast and easy data
capture at the bench; it will subsequently be extended to other
laboratory informatics products such as Accelrys LIMS (Laboratory
Information Management System) and Accelrys LES (Laboratory
Execution System).
Through integration with the Accelrys Enterprise Platform,
Accelrys Capture gains access to additional functionality available
in the Accelrys Component Collections including the Accelrys Mobile
Collection which allows developers to build scientific protocols
for deployment to mobile devices. The Accelrys Enterprise Platform
gives scientists the capability to quickly search reference
information and track the decisions impacting their laboratory work
and research hypotheses. Connecting mobile devices with the
powerful search and presentation capabilities of the Accelrys
Enterprise Platform eliminates tedious, often unnecessary library
work in favor of more productive and value-added bench work.
