Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) promoted veteran executive
Carlos A. Rodriguez to the posts of president and chief operating
officer, potentially putting him in position to succeed Chief
Executive Gary C. Butler.
Butler, who previously held the president title, had served in
the same positions Rodriguez is assuming before taking the top post
in 2006.
Rodriguez, who will take on the roles in June, has worked at the
payroll-data company since 1999, when ADP acquired the professional
employer organization Vincam. He served most recently as president
of the company's national accounts services and Employer Services
International divisions. He also led the human-resources
administrator ADP TotalSource and spent several years as president
of ADP's small business operations.
"We are pleased to move forward with a proven leader taking on
the position of president and chief operating officer," Butler said
in a statement. "Carlos has demonstrated a record of success in
each of the senior roles he has held at ADP."
A company representative wasn't immediately available for
further comment.
The payroll-processing and human-resources-outsourcing company
has seen results stabilize recently, though higher expenses due to
headcount additions and acquisition activity have weighed on the
bottom line. Meanwhile, the U.S. unemployment rate remains high,
although ADP has reported private-sector payrolls have expanded
each month since October 2010.
It reported earlier this month that its fiscal third-quarter
profit grew 5% as new business sales grew for Employer Services and
PEO Services, while the company added client revenue retention
during the key calendar year-end period was strong.
