Automatic Data Processing Inc.'s first-quarter revenue fell slightly while its profit increased from the comparable quarter a year prior.

ADP said net income was $602.1 million, or $1.40 a share. Profit rose from $582.4 million, or $1.34 a share the first quarter a year ago.

Adjusted earnings were $1.41 a share. That topped the analyst consensus of 99 cents a share according to FactSet.

Revenue fell less than 1% to $3.47 billion. Analysts expected $3.28 billion.
