CATC Announces 3Gbps-Capable Serial ATA Protocol Analyzer Market-driven Feature Set, Compatibility With SATA-I, SATA-II Extensions And 3Gbps Signaling Highlight Next Generation Analyzer SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Access Technology Corporation (CATC) , a leading communications protocol expert company, today announced the expansion of its line of expert Serial ATA (SATA) protocol analyzers and exercisers. The CATC SATracer(TM) 3G is a powerful analyzer that builds upon the strengths of the SATracer/Trainer(TM) and continues its leadership position by offering a single system that supports both SATA-I and SATA-II. SATracer 3G can capture, decode and analyze traffic at speeds up to 3 Gbps, enabling designers and storage device manufacturers to accelerate the development and delivery of new products. SATracer 3G delivers a comprehensive feature set for developers focused on maximizing the performance potential of Serial ATA-II. It includes decodes for the SATA-II Extensions (command queuing and port multiplier), plus in-depth performance metrics and compatibility with both SATA 1.5 and 3Gbps transfer rates. Users also have the option of upgrading the analyzer to enable it to simultaneously capture SATA and Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) traffic. "As the completion of the 3Gbps Serial ATA specification nears, the availability of supporting test equipment with such capabilities becomes instrumental," stated Knut Grimsrud, chairman of the SATA Working Group and Intel senior principal engineer. "By providing an analysis platform that spans both 1.5 and 3Gbps signaling, CATC is enabling today's developers to prepare for to the next generation Serial ATA signaling speed." "SATracer 3G enters the market with a complete feature set that leverages our years of developing expert protocol analysis systems for the first generation of Serial ATA," stated Michael Micheletti, senior manager of Storage Products for CATC. "Full support for Serial ATA-II Extensions, ATAPI command decoding, as well as SAS and SATA-II interoperability make the SATracer 3G the most flexible platform for accelerating these new technologies to market." SATracer 3G is based on CATC's Universal Protocol Analysis System(TM) (UPAS(TM) 10000), a high bandwidth hardware platform capable of supporting multi-port analysis, traffic generation and anticipated future SATA enhancements. The UPAS 10K platform also supports Fibre Channel, InfiniBand, SAS and PCI Express, in addition to SATA II. Like all CATC analyzer products, the SATracer 3G utilizes the powerful CATC Trace(TM) expert analysis software to process, decode and analyze captured SATA traffic. The CATC Trace embeds deep understanding of the SATA protocol hierarchy and intricacies and presents this information to the user in a colorful, intuitive and easy to use graphical display, allowing customers to quickly discover and correct persistent and intermittent errors and flaws in product designs. Availability CATC is accepting orders for the SATracer 3G with delivery beginning in December 2003. Current SATracer customers will be able to upgrade their existing systems to SATracer 3G as well as purchase optional SAS 3G support and multiple channel support when available.
